Published on December 20, 2019, the Kiambu County Assembly has voted to impeach Governor Ferdinand Waititu on charges of abuse of office and violation of the Public Finance Management Act.
Out of 91 ward representatives, 63 voted in favor of the impeachment motion, while one MCA voted against it. Twenty-eight members, mostly supporters of Waititu, were absent from the vote.
The motion, sponsored by Ndenderu Ward representative Solomon Kinuthia, also accused Waititu of violating Public Finance Management Act provisions and incurring an unsustainable debt of Sh4 billion.
Waititu's fate now lies with the 67 Senators who will ratify or overturn the impeachment vote once Parliament resumes from its December recess.
