On December 19, 2019, a historic day in Kiambu County politics, Governor Ferdinand Waititu faced the music as the Kiambu County Assembly voted to impeach him.
Out of 91 ward representatives, 63 voted in favor of his ouster, while 28 were absent from the crucial sitting.
Only one representative, Anthony Ikonya Mwaniki, a close ally of Mr. Waititu, opposed the impeachment motion.
However, his dissenting voice was short-lived as he was later ejected from the assembly by Speaker Stephen Ndichu for being unruly.
Earlier, the Speaker had adjourned the debate on technicalities, but it resumed at 3:45 pm, marking a significant moment in the county's history.
With the impeachment now in place, the focus shifts to the judiciary, where Mr. Waititu is expected to appear on Friday to seek a ruling on his application to be reinstated to office.
