Published on December 20, 2019, a group of MCAs allied to Governor Ferdinand Waititu have vowed to challenge his impeachment in court.

The MCAs, who are opposed to the impeachment motion, claim that the Kiambu County Assembly lacked the required quorum to pass the motion.

Speaking at a press conference at Kabarak Guest House Restaurant, the MCAs accused the Speaker of the Assembly, Stephen Ndichu, of plotting to push the governor from office.

"The Speaker has decided to play politics, we are going to argue our case in court because the assembly lacked quorum to impeach the governor," said Daniel Ngugi, a Kiuu Ward MCA.

The impeachment motion was passed by a section of ward reps, but the MCAs claim that 33 members were not present in the assembly when the motion was tabled.

"It is a sad day for the people of Kiambu, 33 MCAs were not in the assembly when the impeachment motion was tabled. The House could not raise the 63 MCAs," said Cecilia Njuguna, a nominated MCA.
