Tanzanian Arrested for Selling Illicit Brew in Nairobi

On December 20, 2019, a Tanzanian national, Joseph Chacha, was charged before a Makadara law court in Nairobi for allegedly obstructing police officers on duty.

Chacha, who was arrested for selling an illicit brew at Chokaa area of Kayole estate, is also facing charges of being in Kenya without proper documentation and possession of the alcoholic drink that does not meet set quality standards.

During his arrest, Chacha allegedly grabbed a stone and attempted to strike one of the police officers, prompting a commotion that attracted the attention of members of the public.

Police recovered 20 litres of the illicit brew from him during the raid and he was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.

The hearing of his case is set to commence on April 28, 2020.
