On December 20, 2019, the Kenyan Cabinet, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, approved the commercial farming of BT cotton hybrids following successful field trials.
The move aims to increase farmers' earnings through higher production and support the country's Big 4 Agenda, particularly in the textile and apparel sector.
The Cabinet also approved the establishment of the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union (KPCU) and the Coffee Cherry Advance Revolving Fund.
Additionally, the meeting saw the renaming of Moi Day to Huduma Day, in line with former President Daniel Arap Moi's desire to commemorate the day as a service and volunteerism day.
Under the proposed amendments to the Public Holidays Act, Boxing Day will be renamed Utamaduni Day to celebrate the country's rich cultural diversity and heritage.
The Cabinet also discussed pending bills, with a focus on settling audited and verified bills, and established an inter-agency team to verify historical pending bills worth Sh40 billion within a month.
Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the implementation of a film incentives package to boost Kenya's position as a film destination in Africa.
