On December 19, 2019, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) released the results of the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
During the announcement at the KNEC headquarters in Nairobi, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha highlighted the remarkable achievements of several students who had improved significantly from their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) marks.
Among the top performers was Kinyua Milka Wanjiru, who scored 179 marks out of 500 in her KCPE exam and went on to achieve a B- (minus) in the 2019 KCSE exam at Gathara Secondary School.
Other notable students included Munyoki Mwikali, who scored a B- (minus) at Maria Secondary School after joining with 199 KCPE marks, and Sharon Chepkoech, who ranked third most improved after scoring a C+ (plus) from Zaire Secondary School with 183 KCPE marks.
Joseph Mwangi of Mukui Secondary School and Mureti Timothy of Kirindara Mixed Secondary School also made the list, achieving C+ (plus) grades despite joining high school with 193 and 194 KCPE marks, respectively.
These students were among the 627 candidates who scored grade A (plain), 5,796 who scored A- (minus), and 125,746 who attained C+ (plus), the minimum university entry grade, in the 2019 KCSE exams.
