On December 19, 2019, Liverpool made a significant move in the transfer market by signing Japan winger Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg for £7.25m on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

The signing is a major coup for Liverpool, and it is a testament to the club's sporting director, Michael Edwards, who has gained a reputation as one of the best and most shrewd operators in the business.

Minamino, 24, has impressed with his skills, scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists in 22 appearances for Salzburg this season. He played in both Champions League games against Liverpool but can now play for his new club due to new UEFA rules.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp praised the signing, saying, 'This is fabulous news – a wonderful signing. We are really, really happy about this.'

Minamino will join the club officially and be eligible to play on January 1, which may give him a chance to make his debut in the third round of the FA Cup against Everton.
