On November 19, 2019, a heated debate took place in the Kiambu county assembly, resulting in the impeachment of Governor Ferdinand Waititu. A total of 63 members of the county assembly voted to oust him from office.

Waititu's impeachment comes after a litany of accusations, including gross misconduct and abuse of office. He is also facing charges related to the alleged defrauding of county taxpayers.

The allegations against Waititu center around a grant of Kshs588,198,328 awarded to upgrade various roads in Kiambu County in the 2017/2018 financial year. However, the award was allegedly choreographed in favor of M/S Testimony Enterprises Ltd., a company with close ties to the governor.

According to reports from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), a total amount of Kshs147,274,055 was irregularly paid to M/S Testimony Enterprises Ltd. The contractor also received other tenders, including the supply of goods worth Kshs74,216,144, which was already paid to the contractor's account.

Conclusively, the ODPP reiterated that M/S Testimony Enterprise Ltd. was paid Kshs221,490,499 out of which Kshs 25,624,500 was given to entities linked to Waititu. A section of the funds was used by Saika Two Estate Developers to purchase Bienventure Delta Hotel owned by the county boss and his wife.
