On December 19, 2019, Kenya's Cabinet, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, approved the commercial farming of BT cotton hybrids. This decision follows the successful completion of field trials conducted over five years.

The move is expected to increase farmers' earnings through higher production and boost the manufacturing pillar of the Big 4 Agenda. Kenya seeks to establish itself as a regional leader in textile and apparel production.

Additionally, the Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi, approved the establishment of the New Kenya Planters Co-operative Union (KPCU) and the immediate operationalization of the Coffee Cherry Advance Revolving Fund.

The Cabinet also discussed pending bills and emphasized the need for all government arms to settle audited and verified bills quickly. Furthermore, an inter-agency team will be established to verify historical pending bills worth Shs 40 billion within one month.

Lastly, the Cabinet approved the implementation of a film incentives package to encourage local and international filmmakers to use Kenya's locations for their productions.
