William Ruto's Humble Roots: From Chicken Seller to Deputy President

Deputy President William Ruto, known for his humble beginnings, has revisited his roots by buying chicken worth KSh 1.1 million in Uasin Gishu county.

On Thursday, December 19, 2019, Ruto presided over the second edition of the chicken auction, which aimed to empower small-scale farmers in the region.

The event, which was a huge success, managed to raise KSh 11 million, more than double the KSh 6 million raised in 2018's first edition.

According to Ruto, the government is committed to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to harness their maximum potential.

He said, 'We are supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to harness their maximum potential by coming up with favourable tax regimes, ridding the market of middlemen, extending resource backing to them, and creating a level playing field to allow them to flourish.'

Ruto's decision to revisit his humble beginnings has sparked conversations on social media, with many praising his efforts to support small-scale farmers.

As the country's second in command, Ruto is keen to see small businesses flourish, reducing poverty and enhancing job creation.

He said, 'Small businesses hold significant social and economic impact to our country; they fuel local economy, spark creativity, allow people to achieve financial liberty, offer diversity in our economy, are jobs generation powerhouses, and contribute to poverty reduction.'

With his commitment to supporting small-scale farmers, Ruto has set an example for other leaders to follow.
