On December 19, 2019, Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi made two changes to the squad that suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Eritrea in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup semis clash. He brought in Moses Mudavadi and Anthony Wambani for Roy Okal and Kevin Kimani respectively.
The Dutch-trained Kimanzi kept faith in Western Stima custodian Samuel Odhiambo to man the goalposts, while red-hot Ulinzi Stars striker Oscar Wamalwa, who had scored three goals in the tourney, would lead the line, assisted by roving Hassan Abdallah of Bandari.
Kenya's quest for bronze would be led by Gor Mahia's Kenneth Muguna in midfield, alongside Lawrence Juma, as they took on Tanzania in a third-place playoff match at the Lugogo KCCA Grounds in Kampala.
The match kicked off at 1 pm, with Kenya seeking a bronze medal.
