Published on December 19, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto hosted a gathering of over 1,000 Maa elders from Mount Kenya at his Sugoi residence in Kenya.
The meeting, led by Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, was the first of its kind to be held at the Eldoret Sports Club before moving to Silverline, where the elders met with some of the local residents of Eldoret.
According to a report by Citizen TV, the main agenda of the meeting was to reaffirm the elders' loyalty and support for the Deputy President.
Kimani Ngunjiri stated that a group of 4,000 people had volunteered to attend the meeting with the Deputy President.
He explained that the Agikuyu community wanted to show their unity with Ruto and express their joy at the reconciliation between Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.
"We want to show that we respect and love him. We also want him to know that we are the people of the Bonde la Ufa and we cherish the reconciliation of 2013," Ngunjiri said.
The meeting aimed to reaffirm the agreements made between Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013, which have been fulfilled in the 2022 elections.
It is believed that after the Sugoi meeting, the leaders will announce their stance.
