December 19, 2019 - In a move that has left many in the media industry reeling, Radio Africa Group has laid off over 150 employees due to economic difficulties. The company, which owns popular media outlets such as The Star, Classic 105, and Kiss 100, has been struggling to stay afloat amidst a decline in advertising revenues.

The layoffs, which began in October, have seen junior staff, middle-level managers, and senior managers being let go. According to sources, the company has been struggling to pay its employees, with some staff members receiving their termination letters as early as October 7th.

Radio Africa Group's struggles are not unique to the company. The media industry as a whole has been hit hard by the economic downturn, with many media houses struggling to stay afloat. In September, Mediamax laid off 160 employees, and Standard Group laid off just over 100 employees in September 2017.

The layoffs at Radio Africa Group are a stark reminder of the challenges facing the media industry in Kenya. With a decline in advertising revenues and a slow economy, many media houses are struggling to stay afloat.

Radio Africa Group's radio division, which commands 48% of radio listenership in Kenya, has been particularly hard hit. The company's radio stations, including Classic FM, Radio Jambo, and Kiss FM, have seen a decline in listenership and revenue.
