Kenyan Woman's 9-Year Nightmare: Abusive Spanish Husband

Meet Ruth Wairimu, a Kenyan woman who has been living a 9-year nightmare with her abusive Spanish husband, Francesc Font Domenech.

It all started in 2009 when Ruth met Domenech in South Africa, where she was working. He promised to come to Kenya to meet her parents, and during that time, she conceived their first child, born in 2010. However, Domenech soon flew back to Barcelona, leaving Ruth to care for their child alone.

Domenech returned to Kenya three weeks later, but his stay was short-lived. He left again, this time for two years, leaving Ruth to care for their child and eventually their second child, born in 2012. During this time, Ruth began to suspect that Domenech was not the man she thought he was.

When Ruth finally joined Domenech in Barcelona in 2013, she realized that he was a different person. He was racist, manipulative, and physically abusive. He threatened to return her home in a casket if she mentioned their children, and he even tried to suffocate her with a pillow.

Ruth was taken to two mental hospitals, where she faced communication barriers and was lucky to meet an English-speaking American nurse in the third facility. She narrated her ordeal to the caregiver, who warned her not to swallow pills and not to accept any medication.

Two months later, Ruth had not seen her children, and she was staying at a church. She followed up the matter with the social service, who told her she had been accused of attempting to kidnap her children. A legal battle ensued, and Ruth was lucky to have a genuine English interpreter at the court.

Finally, the court ruled in Ruth's favor, giving her custody of the children. However, Domenech continues to threaten Ruth, saying he will pay a lawyer to get his children back. Ruth is not at peace, fearing that she may lose her children.

Her friend Joan, who lives in Barcelona, had no kind words for Domenech. 'He was a liar, a manipulator, physically, racially, and psychologically abusive,' she said. 'Luckily, we managed to get justice.'
