Google Warns of Scams Targeting Elderly Users ¶
December 19, 2019
Google has issued a warning about online scams that specifically target elderly users, advising seniors to take extra care when using the internet to avoid falling victim to sophisticated security threats.
According to Elijah Lawal, online safety communications manager at Google, 75% of Brits over 60 report having worried about online safety in the past year.
Lawal advised that seniors should take extra care when visiting websites, and not click on links in emails from unfamiliar senders, as these could lead to malicious websites that install malware on devices or attempt to steal information.
He also emphasized the importance of keeping strong, unique passwords and being cautious when sharing personal information online.
Lawal added that legitimate companies will never ask users to share their passwords or social security numbers over phone, email, text or social media.
He urged users to stay vigilant when using their devices, and to keep their wits about them when creating and managing passwords, sharing information or following links.
By following these tips, seniors can make it much harder for attackers to access their personal information.
