Manchester United and Manchester City are set for a highly anticipated Carabao Cup semifinal clash after securing their spots in the last four with victories over Colchester and Oxford United respectively.
Manchester United demolished League Two outfit Colchester 3-0 at Old Trafford, while Manchester City edged past League One opposition Oxford United to book a crunch date with the Red Devils.
Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have expressed their delight at the prospect of facing their arch-rivals Manchester City in the semifinals.
"Made to work for it but job done tonight getting into semis. Bang up for another derby too," Rashford tweeted after the match.
On his part, Solskjaer exuded confidence in Manchester United's ability to cruise past Manchester City, saying, "You always want to win trophies and games and we got a nice little draw coming up so it’s exciting times coming up."
He added, "I don’t feel anything is written in the stars. You work hard, take what you get. We’ve shown that we can play well against teams like City," in a statement to Sky Sports.
Manchester City, the reigning champions, will be looking to defend their title, while Manchester United will be keen to recapture it having won it three years ago under Jose Mourinho.
