On December 19, 2019, a rally of supporters for Deputy President William Ruto was underway in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County, led by Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri.
According to Ngunjiri, the rally was attended by over 4,000 people, mostly from the Kikuyu community in 15 counties of the Rift Valley region.
"We are here to show our support for Deputy President William Ruto, whom we have benefited greatly from his leadership and the peace that has been brought by his cooperation with President Uhuru Kenyatta," Ngunjiri said in an interview with Citizen TV.
He added that the rally was not about Tangatanga or Kieleweke, but about Kikuyu people going to tell Ruto that they are with him.
"We know there are many issues of succession, but we know DP Ruto is our man," Ngunjiri said.
The rally comes at a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urging leaders from the Rift Valley region to calm down the political temperature.
However, Ngunjiri has been critical of President Kenyatta, accusing him of plotting to bring down Ruto despite having helped him win the presidency in 2013 and 2017.
