Scandals that Rocked 2019 ¶
2019 was a year Kenyans will remember with a mix of nostalgia and shock. It was a year full of scandals in politics, churches, and the entertainment industry.
Below are some of the top scandals of 2019.
Lilian Muli's Public Breakup ¶
Citizen TV host Lilian Muli called her baby daddy Jerad Ombongi a 'community husband' in a public post. She later apologized for the outburst, stating she was going through a bad moment.
Governor Sonko's Arrest ¶
The arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko on December 6, 2019, was a dramatic event. He was arrested by DCI detectives in Voi after the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji ordered his arrest. Sonko and other City Hall officials were accused of facilitating and/or benefiting from irregular procurement and payments amounting to Sh357 million.
He was released on a Ksh 15 million bail after spending days at Kamiti Maximum Prison. The conditions for his bail included not talking about the case on social media and staying away from his office.
King Kaka's Song 'Wajinga Nyinyi' ¶
King Kaka shook the industry with his song 'Wajinga Nyinyi', which called out leaders for their bad vices. Among those mentioned was Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru. She gave King Kaka 48 hours to apologize to her through her lawyers.
Willy Paul's Assault Allegations ¶
Gospel artiste Willy Paul was accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Susan Mwaniki. She narrated how he beat her up and threatened to kill her. Susan reported the threat to her life at the Thika Police Station.
Mr Seed's Infidelity Scandal ¶
Gospel artiste Mr Seed was accused of infidelity by a city lass who claimed he forced himself on her when she visited him at his house. He deactivated his social media account fearing public trolling.
Other Notable Scandals ¶
Other notable scandals of 2019 included the murder of Dutch businessman Tob Cohen, the infidelity scandal involving gospel artiste Weezdom, and the public feud between Zari and Tanasha.
