December 19, 2019, marked a new chapter in the ongoing saga between Sarah Wairimu Cohen and the Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti. In a fresh lawsuit, Sarah is demanding Ksh500 million in compensation from Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji.
According to court documents, Sarah claims that her detention of the Kitisuru home was illegal and is seeking damages for the alleged loss of her property. She also wants Kinoti to appear in court in person to provide an update on the status of the property, which she claims was jointly owned with her late husband.
Broken down, Sarah's demands include a full report on the inventory of items in her home and assurances that the property's quality remains intact. She argues that she spent 12 years in the home, which was registered under both their names.
“Wairimu and Cohen jointly own all that property known as LR No. 2951/449, situated at Farasi Lane, Mugumoini Close in Tower Kabete, Nairobi, which, the property was jointly purchased on or about June 7, 2000 and registered in the deceased’s name, by mutual agreement,” read the court suit papers.
The demands come after the DCI closed off the property, terming it an active crime scene under police investigations. The body of the late billionaire was found in a septic tank in September 2019, with an autopsy revealing that he was hit by a blunt object in the head.
