Kenya High School student Barasa Maryanne Njeri has made history by ranking second in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. The 18-year-old scored an impressive A of 87.087 points, narrowly missing the top spot held by Buluma Wabuko Tony from Kapsabet Boys with 87.159 points.

According to the results announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha, Njeri's achievement is a testament to her hard work and dedication. The Kenya High School student led her school to scoop the top position with the most grade As (76) in this year's KCSE exams.

When asked about her achievement, Njeri expressed her surprise and gratitude. 'I believed I would do well since I had done my part perfectly but I have to admit that I didn’t expect to be the second top student,' she said.

Njeri's journey to the top has not been easy. She sat her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams four years ago at Thika Road Academy and garnered 427 marks. Despite the challenges, she remained focused and determined to achieve her goals.

Her mother, Jane Wambui, filled with joy and pride, described her daughter as one who has been consistent in her academic performance. 'I expected my daughter to do well, but I did not expect her to be the top girl. She has always been a prayerful girl; we used to pray together and we thank God for answering our prayers,' she said.

With a total of 699,745 students sitting for this year's examinations, Njeri's achievement is a remarkable feat. The KCSE exams were concluded on November 27, and the results have brought joy and pride to many students and their families.
