Published on December 19, 2019, Barcelona and Real Madrid played out a thrilling 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou in the highly anticipated El Clasico match.

Ernesto Valverde's side maintained their top spot in La Liga, with both teams having 36 points on the table.

The match was marked by seven yellow cards, with Madrid having four of them.

Real Madrid's Isco flicked the ball through the legs of Gerard Pique, while Karim Benzema shot straight into the hands of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in the first real chance of the match.

Casemiro headed from a short-corner, but Gerard Pique cleared it off the line in the 17th minute.

Valverde also tried his luck from distance but went just off target.

Jordi Alba should have made it 1-0 after arriving just in time to tap in from a Lionel Messi cross, but the ball went just wide.

Ter Stegen was there once again to stop Valverde's shot as the first half ended goalless, with Real creating most of the chances.

Gareth Bale had his opportunity in the 67th minute after a Valverde counter-attacking move fell kindly for the Welshman, who hit the side-netting.

Bale then scored minutes later, but the goal was ruled out by the VAR after Mendy, who provided the assist, was caught offside.

The match ended in a goalless draw, with Barcelona remaining on top of the league table ahead of their rivals on goal difference.
