On December 18, 2019, the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump, marking a historic moment in US politics.
The impeachment process began with a vote on two charges: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
Both votes fell along party lines, with nearly all Democrats voting in favor of the charges and all Republicans opposing them.
As the House debated the impeachment charges, President Trump was addressing a campaign rally in Battle Creek, Michigan, where he told the crowd, “While we’re creating jobs and fighting for Michigan, the radical left in Congress is consumed with envy and hatred and rage, you see what’s going on.”
The White House released a statement after the vote, saying that President Trump was “confident that he will be fully exonerated” in a Senate trial.
