On December 19, 2019, a police officer was shot dead in Korogocho slums, sparking a chain of events that led to the detention of a suspect.
Joseph Kamau Njenga was being interrogated by police when a crowd demanded his release, leading to a scuffle in which Police Constable Abdikadir Ali Kula was shot in the abdomen.
According to documents filed in the Makadara Law Courts, PC Francis Iluku obtained an order to detain Njenga for 14 days pending investigations into Kula's murder.
Iluku stated that Njenga was being interrogated when a group of young men appeared, demanding his release, and one of them shot PC Kula on the right side of his ribs.
The police officer's death is shrouded in controversy, with initial reports suggesting he was stoned to death, but area residents claim he succumbed to a gun shot injury inflicted by a colleague.
