On December 18, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha released the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination results, which showed a significant improvement in performance.

Magoha attributed the improved results to the ongoing reforms at the ministry, which have put in place stringent measures to uphold the integrity of the examination.

These reforms have convincingly dealt with exam malpractice, resulting in a notable decrease in the number of candidates involved in such activities.

According to the results, 627 candidates scored straight As, a significant increase from the 315 recorded last year.

The top-performing candidates included Buluma Tony Wabuko of Kapsabet Boys High, who scored 87.159 points, followed closely by Barasa Maryanne Njeri of Kenya High with 87.087 points.

Magoha emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of exams, warning stakeholders against politicizing the ongoing reforms targeting the education sector.

The government has announced plans to proceed with the rollout of the Competency Based Curriculum in January next year.
