On December 18, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha announced a major victory for Kenya's education system, stating that the government had restored the credibility of national academic credentials.
Speaking during the release of 2019 KCSE results, Professor Magoha revealed that a total of 1,309 results of students who attempted to steal the exam had been cancelled.
According to Professor Magoha, the number of cases of irregularities had decreased significantly from 4,519 in 2018 to 1,300 in 2019. Additionally, 100 mobile phones were confiscated during the examination period, and 21 cases of exam malpractices were detected.
Professor Magoha commended the chief in Eastleigh who confiscated 100 cell phones, recommending that he be honored by the President. He also recommended that two police officers in Kisii be promoted by Interior CS Fred Matiangi for their efforts in preventing examination malpractices.
Notably, results improved with female candidates performing well in English, CRE, Home science, and sign language. However, 11 subjects, including English, Swahili, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, declined.
