Lynette Wanjiru Njeru, a County Executive Committee member for Gender and Youth in Kirinyaga County, has resigned amidst concerns over her performance.

Njeru's resignation comes after she received a letter from Governor Anne Waiguru on December 9, citing underperformance in the Gender and Youth docket.

According to the letter, Governor Waiguru raised concerns over the overall performance of the docket, citing the Kaitheri Linen Factory's output as operating below the agreed target and the failure to launch a gender-based recovery center as scheduled.

Additionally, the letter indicated that there were no significant initiatives for youth undertaken despite guidance on priority projects.

Njeru had been given seven days to respond to the allegations, failure to which action would be taken.

However, in her resignation letter, Njeru steered clear of the allegations, instead expressing gratitude to Governor Waiguru for the appointment and support.

This is not the first time a County Executive Committee member has faced disciplinary action in Kirinyaga County. Last year, Njeru's predecessor, Judy Kinyua, moved to court claiming unfair dismissal and was awarded Ksh.3.3 million by the Labour court in Nyeri.
