On December 18, 2019, a Kenyan man made headlines in Tanzania after winning the long-standing 354 Million Sportpesa Mega Jackpot.

Michael Mutai, a car mechanic, correctly predicted 17 matches set by the bookmaker in their weekly Mega Jackpot.

According to Mutai, he casually placed the bet and did not expect much from it, but his lucky betting habits date back to his time at a garage adjacent to the Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Kenya.

Interestingly, Mutai was once a winner of a jackpot bonus of Ksh 208,500 while still residing in Kayole estate in Nairobi.

Following the animosity between Sportpesa and the Kenyan government, Mutai has been authorized to invest 70% of the money in Tanzania, a rule passed by the Tanzanian parliament to grow its economy.

However, Mutai faces a huge challenge in his new attempt to manoeuvre a foreign market, and it is unclear if the same orders apply in case a foreigner wins the aforementioned amounts.

As a result of the frosty relationship between Sportpesa and the Betting Control and Licensing board of Kenya, the company withdrew its support to the sporting activity in Kenya and other community services they had sponsored.
