City Tycoons, Cartels Plot to Impeach Sonko

Published on December 18, 2019

City tycoons and cartels have allegedly joined forces to bribe Nairobi MCAs to impeach Governor Mike Sonko.

According to sources, the plot involves several high-profile businessmen, including Mike Maina, the proprietor of Marble Arch Hotel, and Peter Nderitu, the owner of Pimp My Ride East Africa.

Both Maina and Nderitu have had run-ins with Sonko in the past, with Maina accusing the governor of defaming him during a live show and Nderitu suffering huge losses after his business complex was demolished for failure to get building approval from City Hall.

The plot to impeach Sonko is said to have been in the works for some time, with several meetings held at a top city hotel to plan how to induce MCAs to vote against the governor.

Other tycoons said to be involved in the plot include Francis Mburu, a controversial businessman, and George Wainaina, a former chief of staff at City Hall during the reign of Evans Kidero.

Meanwhile, Sonko is facing charges of embezzling Sh357 million and is out on Sh15 million bail.
