On December 18, 2019, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) denied reports that it was pushing for the proposed Prime Minister post.

Speaking to Ramogi FM, ODM Director of Political Affairs Opiyo Wandayi condemned the reports as 'malicious and the highest level of irresponsible reporting by the press.'

Wandayi clarified that the ODM Parliamentary Group meeting did not discuss the debate over a proposed Prime Minister, but instead focused on the employment terms of 'Election Returning officers and government Procurement officers.'

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna echoed Wandayi's sentiments, stating that 'papers must carry news only and not be agents of misinformation.'

He further criticized the Daily Nation for publishing a story that was 'not factual.'

The controversy surrounding the Prime Minister post arose after the launch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report on November 27, which proposed the creation of a Prime Minister's slot, a mixed cabinet, and allocation of more resources to county governments.
