On December 18, 2019, the High Court disqualified Prof George Wajackoya from representing Sharon Otieno's family in a murder case against Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Justice Ngenye Macharia made the ruling after Governor Obado raised concerns that Prof Wajackoya had confidential information that could be used against him in the trial.

According to Governor Obado, Prof Wajackoya had visited him at Gigiri Police Station on September 23, 2018, and discussed the case with him.

Obado stated that Wajackoya had shown him correspondence between himself and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which convinced him that Wajackoya had good knowledge of criminal law practice.

However, Obado claimed that Wajackoya had privileged information that he was apprehensive may be revealed and/or shared with the prosecution in the course of the proceedings.
