'Mti ya Sikukuu vs JKIA Christmas Tree': Kenyans' Reaction ¶
At the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), a Christmas tree has sparked a heated debate among Kenyans online. The tree, which is located in the middle of the parking lot, has been criticized for its appearance and the cost of its installation.
Many have taken to social media to express their disappointment and frustration with the tree, with some even suggesting that the funds allocated for its installation may have been misappropriated. The Kenya Airports Authority has not commented on the matter.
As one Twitter user, Eva, put it, 'LMAOOO hio Christmas tree iko JKIA surely embarrassing us intentionally.'
Another user, Tony, questioned the tender process, asking, 'Whose uncle or Aunty has eaten the tender for JKIA Christmas tree??'
Francis Hook suggested a possible solution to improve the tree's appearance, saying, 'A thing of ugly at JKIA. How to fix: – shorten & widen tree and place on a 2-3 foot high podium/platform.'
For an international airport, the JKIA Christmas tree has been deemed 'sad' and 'embarrassing' by some. As William Mutama put it, 'For an international airport,JKIA should have been more creative with Christmas symbolism. A pine tree in the middle of what looks like a desert is rather lazy.'
