Published on December 18, 2019, a public health crisis unfolded in Kilifi County's Magarini Sub County, where over 2000 women were displaced by floods in Garashi location.

As the women struggled to cope with their new circumstances, they expressed a pressing concern: their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS. In a candid conversation with a public health officer, Mr. Amos Nthenge, they revealed that their prolonged separation from their spouses had triggered normal desires, making them susceptible to unprotected sex.

Confronted with this reality, Nthenge swiftly procured a box of condoms from the nearby Garashi health centre and handed them over to the area chief, Mr. Chula Ndudhi Chula, for distribution.

Addressing the flood victims, Nthenge emphasized the importance of protecting themselves against HIV/AIDS and other waterborne diseases. He cautioned them against unprotected sex and urged them to report any cases of waterborne diseases for prompt action.

As the community rallied around the victims, the County government, Kenya Red Cross, Action Aid, and Anglican Development Services provided essential aid, including food, drugs, tents, and blankets.
