Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was a no-show at the Voi Law Courts on December 18, 2019, where he was expected to answer to assault charges.
According to his team of lawyers, Cecil Miller, Salim Mwadumbo, Jared Magolo, and George Kithi, Sonko was not feeling well and was recuperating at home following doctors' orders.
Senior Resident Magistrate Frederick Mayaka Nyakundi heard that Sonko would be arraigned on January 21, 2020, and was directed to present himself at the DCI headquarters in Voi before appearing in court.
The Governor's lawyers assured the court that they would have their client adhere to the directives.
Sonko had been expected to face three counts, including resisting police arrest and disorderly conduct, related to his alleged assault of Coast Regional Police Commander Rashid Yakub on December 6, 2019.
