On Wednesday morning, December 18th, 2019, police in Makueni County detained two buses operated by Modern Coast Express Limited at Sultan Hamud on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

The buses, each carrying 45 passengers headed to Nairobi from Mombasa, were intercepted by police enforcing a suspension imposed by the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) on Thursday, December 12th, following a tragic accident involving two buses operated by the transport company where seven people died.

According to Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan, the police were still enforcing the suspension, despite a letter from NTSA dated December 17th, which listed 42 buses cleared to operate, including their registration numbers.

However, NTSA reiterated in a statement on Tuesday that the suspension of the Modern Coast license was still in place.
