On a fateful night in December 2019, a 32-year-old man, Muema, narrowly escaped death after being shot eight times by armed thugs in Kasarani, Nairobi County.

According to Muema, who has since made significant progress in his recovery, he was at an MPESA shop depositing money when the incident occurred.

Two armed men, one brandishing a gun, entered the shop at around 10:30 pm, and Muema's friend, the shopkeeper, was under attack.

Summoning an unexplainable power, Muema attempted to save his friend, but was trampled and shot multiple times.

"I looked up and saw the thugs approaching me as if I was lying down. I stood up, raised my head, and was told to shoot the thief," Muema recounted.

Despite his heroic efforts, Muema's actions unleashed a terrifying reaction, resulting in the shooting.

Admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Muema has received utmost care, with doctors acknowledging that recoveries from gun attacks vary from patient to patient.

His gunshot injuries required complex medical procedures, including multiple surgeries, and for the past five weeks, Muema's life has been forever changed.

However, he is grateful that seven bullets have been successfully removed.
