Kenya Airways has appointed Allan Kilavuka as its new acting Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2020, following Sebastian Mickosz's resignation in May.
According to Business Daily, Kilavuka's new role will be temporary until a substantive replacement is found.
As reported by Reuters, Kilavuka has been serving as the CEO of Jambojet, a low-cost carrier, for about a year and will continue to hold this position alongside his new role at Kenya Airways.
“The nationalization process is still ongoing and the airline can’t be left with a leadership vacuum. Kilavuka is definitely experienced on the operations of (Kenya Airways),” said Lisa Kimathi, an investment analyst at Standard Investment Bank.
Kilavuka has a strong background in aviation, having led Jambojet since January 2019 and previously serving as General Electric’s global operation leader for sub-Saharan Africa.
Kenya Airways was privatized over 20 years ago but faced significant financial challenges in 2014 after a failed expansion drive.
Sebastian Mickosz, who led the airline for two years, announced his resignation in May citing personal reasons.
