December 18, 2019, marked a significant day in the ongoing controversy surrounding Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru. The governor's decision to sue rapper King Kaka for defamation has sparked a heated debate, with many Kenyans questioning her motives.
Simple Boy, a celebrated rapper known for his thought-provoking lyrics, has waded into the controversy with a piece of advice for Governor Waiguru. In a tweet, he wrote, "Inauma unaitwa mwizi Lakini Itabidi uzoee," which translates to "It is paining and embarrassing that Kenyans are referring to Governor Waiguru as a thief, but she has to get over it since there is nothing she can do."
Simple Boy's words carry a heavy message, as they are both factual and satirical. In a clever way, the artist has told the governor the truth on the ground, that majority of Kenyans link her to the loss of funds during her tenure as Devolution Cabinet Secretary.
Simple Boy has also mildly sympathized with Governor Waiguru's situation, having experienced ridicule and scorn himself in the past. In a past interview with Betty Kyallo, he revealed that he grew up in ridicule and scorn from his peers who made fun of his facial looks.
