On December 18, 2019, at around 9:30 am, police in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County, Kenya, stopped two buses operated by Modern Coast, which were traveling from Mombasa to inland areas, despite a ban imposed by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) a week earlier.
The buses, each carrying 45 passengers, were halted at a roadblock in Sultan Hamud, according to Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan.
The move came just days after the company's operating license was revoked following a fatal accident on December 12, 2019, in which seven people died and 60 were seriously injured when two of the company's buses collided on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
