On December 18, 2019, Prof. George Magoha, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Education, highlighted the significance of continuous professional development for well-trained teachers in African educational institutions.

Speaking at the 17th Conference on Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (COMSTEDA 17), Prof. Magoha emphasized that well-trained teachers are crucial in building the human capital of the next generation of African innovators in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Prof. Magoha noted, "We also must make sure teachers have the support and resources they need to nurture the next generation of the STEM workforce."

He also underscored the need for technology integration in education, stating that schools and practitioners must move with speed to embrace the culture of technology integration, as most learners are exposed to technology much earlier than what is available in the learning contexts.

The conference provided a continental platform for educators to share innovative ideas, best practices, and interrogate issues relating to teaching and learning mathematics and science.

Attendees included the President of COMSTEDA, the Director of CEMASTEA, Mrs. Jacinta Akatsa, the Director for Secondary Education, Mr. Paul Kibeta, among others.
