King Kaka's song 'Wajinga Nyinyi' has sparked controversy after linking Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal in 2015.
The Governor demanded an unconditional apology and retraction of the song, but lawyers Martha Karua and Ahmednasir Abdullahi have come to King Kaka's defense.
According to Ahmednasir, the NYS scandal was a matter of public interest and related comments should not be treated as defamation.
He stated, 'I said and I repeat...I will give legal representation to King King against anyone who sues him for the lyric #Wajinganyiyi. I’m of the considered view that no one among the ruling elites or the masses was defamed. Ugly, crass and lewd commentaries on society are privileged.'
Martha Karua also expressed her willingness to assist King Kaka, saying, 'Let’s mobilise for his defense fund. But I am available to assist should it be necessary.'
King Kaka's song highlighted the financial mismanagement in the NYS, including the purchase of 20 balls pens for Huduma Kenya at a cost of Kshs8700 each.
The National Youths Service could not account for Kshs791 million following irregular tendering process during the period Governor Waiguru was the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution.
