On December 15, 2019, a festive evening in Nairobi turned sour for Kennedy Otieno Okonji, who found himself in the Makadara Law Courts over an unpaid bill. https://cdn.kenyandigest.com/migrated/ext/db84b583fb888b65e017087be034886d118e4a79.jpg

Okonji had treated his friends to food and drinks at a pub in Mathare, but was unable to settle the bill of Sh6,000, prompting a visit to court.

On Tuesday, December 17, 2019, Okonji was charged with obtaining goods by false pretences, accused of obtaining the goods worth Sh6,020 with the intent to defraud Juliet Akinyi, who served him and his friends at VIP Lounge by falsely pretending he was in a position to pay later.

Okonji denied the charges before Makadara Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji and was freed on a cash bail of Sh20,000. The case will be mentioned on December 27, 2019.
