Nyeri Deputy Speaker Faces Assault Charges

Nyeri Deputy Speaker Samuel Kariuki, who had gone into hiding after a violent incident, surrendered at the Nyeri Police Station on Monday, December 9, 2019.

He was charged with assault and malicious damage to property in connection with an incident that occurred on Sunday, December 8, 2019, where he allegedly assaulted Daniel Wachira, causing bodily harm, tore his shirt, and damaged a vehicle.

Appearing before Nyeri Senior Resident Magistrate Mathias Okuche, Kariuki denied the charges and was released on a Sh50,000 cash bail or a Sh100,000 bond.

His lawyer, Wahome Gikonyo, requested to be supplied with statements pending the mention of the matter on March 26, 2020.
