On December 16, 2019, Justice Otieno Odek, a Court of Appeal judge, was found dead in his rented house on the second floor of Groovehut Apartments in Kisumu.
Two private security guards, who were on duty at the time of the incident, have recorded statements with the police. The guards, whose identities were withheld by the police, were manning the home of Justice Odek.
Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator Vincent Makokha confirmed that the guards had recorded statements, which would give investigators a picture of what may have happened.
Although the guards are not being treated as suspects, their statements could be important in the investigation, as they see people who enter and exit the apartment.
The content of the statements will be kept confidential by detectives, who are awaiting the results of a postmortem that was expected to be done any time from December 17, 2019.
Police are also analyzing three mobile phones that belonged to Justice Odek, which were found on the table when the officers broke into the house to check on the judge after he failed to report to work.
