Published on December 18, 2019, a tragic accident occurred on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, claiming the lives of two young sisters.

The girls, aged four and seven, were crossing the road near Kihoto Estate in Naivasha when they were struck by a motorist. Despite being taken to Naivasha sub-county hospital, they were pronounced dead on arrival.

According to eyewitnesses, the girls were part of a group that intended to cross the road together, but made a split-second decision to cross without checking for coming vehicles.

Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed that the police were pursuing the driver of the car involved in the accident, and the vehicle was towed to Naivasha police station.

Just a day prior to this incident, two motorcyclists were killed by a trailer on the same highway, and a search for a man swept away by River Malewa's raging waters had been extended to Lake Naivasha.
