On December 17, 2019, the country received a boost in its progress when a group of Ugandan MPs visited Kitui County to learn about the county's health insurance programme.

The programme, which ensures quality and affordable healthcare for the local people, has been a huge success and has caught the attention of the Ugandans.

Meanwhile, Malindi Town in Kilifi County has been chosen by an American online company, Airbnb, as one of the 20 best tourism destinations to visit next year.

Such external recognition is a source of inspiration and a challenge to do even better and ensure that the standards are not just sustained, but actually improved.

For Kitui, this should intensify the competition between the 47 counties to make a mark in the management of public resources and provision of services.
