On December 16, 2019, the body of Court of Appeal Judge Professor James Otieno Odek was found at his home in Kisumu, sparking an investigation into the cause of his death.
According to a statement released by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Judge Odek was a respected and admired colleague, known for his 'enlightening views' and strong belief in the cause of justice.
LSK President Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi described Judge Odek as a kind, gentle, and respectful person who will be sorely missed by the legal profession.
While investigations are ongoing, the LSK has called on the media to refrain from speculation and respect the privacy of Judge Odek's family.
