On December 17, 2019, the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nyeri issued an order stopping the ongoing strike by clinical officers in Meru.

Justice Nzioki Wa Makau directed the clinical officers to immediately resume duty or face contempt of court.

The court's decision came after Meru County filed a case seeking to bar the clinical officers from participating in any strike or go-slow that could disrupt services.

The county's application was filed by lawyer Ken Muriuki, who also sought to have the clinical officers' strike declared illegal, unlawful, and unprotected.

Meru County had initiated talks with the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers over allegations of poor management and a deficit of 300 clinical officers.

However, the talks collapsed after the national office called for a nationwide strike, prompting the Meru clinical officers to down their tools.

Following the court's decision, Meru Branch Secretary-General Moses Baiyenia said he would scrutinize the orders before reacting.
