On December 17, 2019, a court in Baringo granted police officers permission to hold three suspects for 14 days as they concluded their investigations into the food poisoning incident.

The suspects, Paul Kinyua, Evans Oyugi, and Nelson Letite, were accused of serving githeri laced with poison to workers at a farm in Ilchamus Ward, Baringo South, on Friday last week.

According to Baringo Chief Officer of Health Dr. Gideon Toromo, the victims showed symptoms of organophosphate poisoning, which can cause damage to the kidneys and heart.

Dr. Toromo advised people to use protective gear and keep pesticides away from food stores to prevent such incidents.
