Heavy rains in the Mt Kenya region have caused Masinga Dam to spill, raising fears of floods downstream and destruction of property in surrounding villages.

Despite the danger, a man has been spotted fishing at the mouth of the spillway, where the dam joins the Tana River.

Video and photos taken by Nairobi News show the man standing on the edge of the spillway's concrete wall, nonchalantly casting his fishing rod into the river.

He is dressed in a Borussia Dortmund football club jersey and appears to be undaunted by the risk of being swept away by the powerful water.

According to a guard working for KenGen, the man prefers to fish in this location because of the abundance of fish seeking food deposited by the raging water.

“Two days ago I spotted the man carrying five mature common carp fish,” the guard explained.

The man's actions have sparked concern, with many wondering if he is a daredevil or simply desperate for food.
