On Tuesday, December 17, 2019, police confirmed the death of Abraham Kichirchir, a naval officer from Mtongwe Naval Base, who was found dead in his house in Mtongwe area, Likoni.

According to officials from the barracks, Kichirchir had failed to report to work since Saturday, prompting them to report the incident at Inuka Police Station.

A police report filed at Inuka Police Station revealed that the deceased had a medical history and had sought treatment at the Navy Dispensary, but the exact nature of his ailment was yet to be established.

John Koywer, the Likoni Directorate of Criminal Investigation boss, stated that a team comprising the police and military police would probe the matter, including interviewing neighbors and soldiers from Mtongwe who reported a foul smell emanating from the deceased's house.

"It is true the incident was reported to us that a foul smell was emanating from the house believed to be occupied by the officer around Mtongwe area. Authorities from Mtongwe navy alerted us and we found the officer dead," said Koywer.

Police broke into the house and found the officer's body lying on his bed, with no physical injuries reported. The body was moved to Jocham hospital morgue for a postmortem examination.
